Kiki+ Philip

Saving the best for last, it’s Kik Gillman and her octopus, Phillip! YAAAAAY KIKI!!!!

So Kiki has never really have a consistent design:

Pretty much any time I drew Kiki for a pin-up I’d just kinda vaguely remember what she looked like and went to town.... but for Kiki to be a character she needed to have a finalized design.

So going in I knew she had to be strawberry blonde and tan to keep her base colors different from the blonde-blonde pale skinned vampires (Unintentionally making her the Anna to Angelesti’s Elsa), After drawing a a couple wet suit variations I decided to go with long selves/swimsuit cut, and after trying to make the big ponytail work her hair ended up down and wavy. She temporarily lost her goggles and snorkel, but those will probably be back later.

After all the times I’ve drawn Kiki I never actually mentioned her last name was Gillman... which should sort of explain what a ‘normal’ whale biologist is doing in a monster comic. (That’s right! She’s been a sea monster this WHOLE TIME!)

Also, it never occurred to me until drawing this picture, but Judy Greer would be the perfect voice for Kiki.
